In partnership with the UVM College of Medicine and Dr. Peter Bingham, the Emergent Media Center took an innovative approach to reaching children with Cystic Fibrosis by creating two electronic game prototypes encouraging the improved adoption of breathing exercises and furthering the research into the effectiveness of such a game. This project was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the EMC partnered with IBM Fellow John Cohn on the hardware components (spirometer connected via USB). Patients greatly enjoyed playing the two games and their breathing performance improved significantly. Studies on the games’ efficacy deemed it very successful.
